CBD For Pain – Can you treat pain with CBD oil?

Whether caused by inflammation or cramps, whether toothache, muscle, head, or nerve pain – pain can have many causes and can be treated just as diversely. If you, too, are one of those people who only resort to synthetic painkillers in extreme emergencies and prefer natural substances, CBD oil could be the right choice.

The reason: CBD oil can not only help with sleep disorders, skin diseases, and inner restlessness but also relieve pain. Studies have shown that cannabidiol has anti-inflammatory, nerve-protective, and antispasmodic effects. How CBD oil helps against pain, what you should keep in mind while taking it, and what we have personally experienced with CBD against pain, you can read in the following article.

What is CBD, and how can it help against pain, inflammation & cramps?

Different cannabis plants – often called hemp or marijuana – contain varying amounts of chemical compounds. Most CBD oil comes from industrial hemp. The manufacturers of CBD oil use different methods to extract the compound. The extract is then added to a carrier oil and called CBD oil.

CBD oil is available in many different strengths, and the areas of application are many and varied.

In natural medicine, cannabis has been used for thousands of years to treat anxiety, anxiety, skin diseases, and other inflammatory conditions. Of great importance is the phytocannabinoid cannabidiol (CBD), as it is neither addictive nor intoxicating.

It can be used at any time of the day without any problems and unwanted side effects. CBD has proven to be particularly effective against pain, as it has an anti-inflammatory and antispasmodic effect. At the same time, it has a strong antioxidant effect and traps the harmful free radicals that are produced during inflammation.

Similar to synthetically produced drugs, CBD-rich preparations suppress the formation of pro-inflammatory tissue hormones. Unlike chemical drugs, they have no adverse effect on the kidneys, heart, intestines, and liver. CBD oil has therefore proved to be particularly useful for pain caused by inflammation and can be used either alone or in combination with other preparations.

CBD as a pain treatment

According to scientific studies, CBD extracts can be an excellent supplement to conventional pain therapy, but not enough. Furthermore, according to our researchers, cannabidiol could prove that it can drastically reduce the need for traditional painkillers. In some test persons, the dose of synthetic painkillers could be decreased significantly in the long run, which in turn was accompanied by much fewer side effects.

Effect of CBD for chronic pain

People who suffer from chronic illnesses often suffer from pain associated with them. If you look at the experience reports circulating on the net, it seems that many patients have been able to reduce or even stop taking their conventional painkillers by taking CBD oil.

For example, one reads about some patients who had to take high doses of morphine as a result of surgery or chronic illness. Although morphine relieves pain, it also has some side effects, such as the risk of dependence and an increased need for sleep.

After patients had additionally taken CBD Oil for pain and continued taking it for months, they were able to significantly reduce the morphine dose, suffered less pain, and finally felt more awake fitter, and clearer in their heads. CBD Oil has proven to be particularly useful for people who already have to take countless medications anyway because it optimally supports conventional therapy and can at best reduce the unpleasant side effects of traditional painkillers.

Use of CBD oil for back pain

If there is a specific area where the back pain is located, CBD oil or CBD-infused topicals or transdermal patches can be applied directly to address the source of the pain. Always read the product label to look for specific dosage instructions.
How often should you use the oil for back pain?

Start with the lowest dose and gradually increase the amount of CBD, or increase the frequency of use until pain relief is achieved. Once you have chosen an optimal dosage regimen, use it, and check that the effects remain constant throughout the treatment.

Can CBD oil relieve pain?

In any case, please take care to observe your body regularly and see how it reacts to the intake. If there are any undesirable side effects, such as very severe fatigue, for which no other cause can be found despite medical supervision, you should reduce the dose again slightly.

Please also keep in mind that CBD is not a medicine, but a natural remedy. It may take a little longer and, above all, a certain amount of regularity to make it fully effective.

At this point, we would also like to point out that the effect can vary from person to person and that no concrete promises of cure can be made. However, as the numerous reports and studies speak for themselves, we see great potential in CBD oil for pain treatment and pain relief.

CBD for pain relief in migraine

The efficacy of CBD in migraine has already been established, although studies on CBD and migraine are still limited. Those currently in existence deal with CBD when paired with THC, not when used alone. The results of a 2017 study suggest that CBD and THC may cause less acute pain and less pain in people with migraines [5].

In a two-phase study, some participants took a combination of two compositions. One composition contained 9 percent CBD and almost no THC. The other contained 19 percent THC. The doses were taken orally.

In the first phase, no effect on pain was observed at doses below 100 mg. When the dose was increased to 200 mg, the acute pain decreased by 55 percent. In the second phase, the frequency of migraine attacks was reduced by 40.4 percent for participants receiving a combination of CBD and THC compounds. The daily dose was 200 mg.

Also, participants with cluster headaches also confirmed pain relief from the combination of CBD and THC compounds, but only if they had a history of migraines in childhood.
Side effects

CBD does not represent a significant risk for most users. However, certain side effects are possible, such as:

  • Fatigue
  • Diarrhea
  • Changes in appetite
  • Changes in weight

Be careful if one of your medicines or dietary supplements contains a “grapefruit warning.” Grapefruit and CBD both interfere with enzymes that are crucial for drug metabolism.

Like other drugs and dietary supplements, CBD can increase the risk of liver toxicity.

Is CBD oil safe to use?

According to some leading health experts and authorities, the answer is yes. It is safe to use.

Although cannabinoid medicine is still at an early stage, the risks associated with CBD are extremely low. Not a single case report of CBD overdose has been published in the literature. The National Institute on Drug Abuse agrees and states that CBD appears to be a safe drug without addictive effects.

Experience with other uses of CBD oil

Everyone reacts somewhat differently to CBD oil. The effects mainly depend on why you take CBD. Insomnia is about feeling tired, while pain is about feeling pain-free – without being put to sleep.

Therefore, CBD oil has a different effect on a person struggling with anxiety than on a person with chronic pain. We have done the test and have had the following experiences.

You are relaxed but completely sober

It’s easy to become a stress-prone person. Having to keep several appointments every day, going through a series of meetings, and finding a balance between life, work, and relationships with others can be overwhelming.

We are under too much pressure these days, and many people don’t know how to deal with so much stress.

CBD reduces the stimulation of the nervous system and therefore has a calming effect on anxiety and high stress.

Besides, CBD interacts with serotonin receptors – suggesting a mechanism for the anti-anxiety effects of CBD [1].

But most importantly, the non- intoxicating nature of CBD allows you to experience this relaxation without changing your state of mind. The result is a feeling of calm and sobriety.

You sleep better

CBD can help you improve your sleep quality by adjusting your stress management, relieving pain, and lowering your blood pressure. The decrease in blood pressure is caused by the calming effect of CBD oil when administered in high doses.

A single 30 mg dose of CBD oil before bedtime can help the user to breathe more quickly due to the reduced pressure and achieve a similar effect as sleeping pills. However, unlike sleeping pills, CBD does not cause a hangover or other unpleasant side effects.

You are able to concentrate better.

Many users of CBD oil report an improved everyday experience in terms of cognitive performance. We found that attention was improved, and we were able to stay alert for most of the day.

It has been shown that lower doses of cannabidiol produce mildly stimulating effects and thus increase lower energy levels.

Many people who take CBD oil also report that they are able to concentrate better at work and feel better than they did before starting this supplement. There is also a study that shows that CBD is an effective remedy for attention deficit disorders.

The pain is over

CBD is remarkably effective against inflammatory pain, such as rheumatoid arthritis. The analgesic properties of CBD are linked to the interaction of the cannabinoid with the body’s CB2 receptors, which play an essential role in regulating the body’s immune function. A study in the European Journal of Pain investigated whether CBD could help people with arthritis to relieve their pain. The researchers applied a topical gel with CBD to rats with arthritis for four days. The researchers found a significant reduction in inflammation and pain symptoms without any additional adverse effects.

By interacting with these receptors, CBD not only strengthens the immune response but also reduces inflammation and pain you feel as your body recovers from injury or discomfort. The effect has been amazing. Our pain was virtually unnoticeable and decreased continuously.

Dosage and tips for severe or chronic pain

If you have several health problems or chronic pain but have no experience with CBD oil for pain, we recommend that you start with a 5 to 10 percent oil and take three drops twice a day for the first few weeks.

From the third week on, the dose can be increased to 5 drops three times a day. According to studies and experience reports, however, severe chronic pain or the side effects of chemotherapy can be alleviated by taking four drops of 10-percent oil in the morning and evening during the first week, and from week two, five drops three times a day.

In the case of chronic pain, the dose should be gradually increased, if necessary, also with a higher dosage of oil. As a rule, oil containing cannabidiol does not cause any side effects. Still, each body reacts differently to the ingredients so that in rare cases minor side effects such as tiredness or loss of appetite may occur.
Dosage for mild pain

In our experience, the oil is ideal for relieving mild pain without the need for additional painkillers. When we talk about mild pain, we mean, for example, temporary gastrointestinal complaints that can occur in the course of a flu-like infection.

In this case, three drops in the morning and three drops in the evening are usually sufficient to relieve the pain significantly. In the evening, cannabidiol also has the advantage that it promotes sleep and prevents inner restlessness. If the pain has not disappeared after a week, you can increase the dose to 5 drops twice a day.

As far as the dosage for pain is concerned, it depends on the cannabidiol content of the oil you are using.

We have had a good experience with Fluxx Labs CBDa oil because it contains enough cannabidiol to have a safe and quick effect.

When recommending the dosage, it should also be noted that this is for adults weighing between 60 and 90 kilograms. Very slim, light or heavy persons may need to dose lower or higher to achieve the desired effect.

As a beginner, you can, of course, start with a lower dosage of cannabis oil, for example, with the 5% full spectrum oil from Nordic.

Research and Trials

There is still no sound human research that could support CBD or CBD oil as the preferred method of pain treatment, but researchers agree that this product has excellent potential.

The significant advantage is that CBD products can help people with chronic pain without the risk of drug poisoning and addiction.

If you are interested in trying CBD for chronic pain, it is best to talk to your doctor first. He can help you determine a starting dose that is best for you.

There is currently no guideline for exact CBD oil doses, let alone disease-specific treatments. The optimal CBD dose depends on several factors, including CBD quality, the weight and metabolism of the individual, and the reason for ingestion.
